CAROLE REGAN

Chairperson

My name is Carole Regan and I have lived in Houghton Regis for 35 years. I am extremely passionate about preserving the heritage of our town, so that future generations can grow and bring their families up in a safe and community-minded environment. This is why I am a founding member of the FOWD group.

PAULA SMITH

Treasurer

I'm Paula Smith, Chair of Friends of Windsor Drive. I moved to Houghton Regis in 2002, and helped set up the group in early 2021. I am passionate about keeping Windsor Drive as an open green space for local residents and my family and grandchildren are in Houghton Regis so also benefit from this. No building should be planned for this area. Houghton Regis has enough new builds already without the infrastructure to support it.

LORNA MORISON

Secretary

Hi my name is Lorna and I moved to Houghton Regis with my young family in 2008. I’ve enjoyed raising them here and am passionate about keeping the open spaces for their and their children’s future. I am involved in the local junior parkrun enabling children to get out in the fresh air and enjoy weekly physical activity. I hope to keep Windsor Drive free of development for all around to enjoy

Luckily for me, I have lived in a house overlooking Windsor Drive Open Space for 32 years. My husband and I have brought up our 3 children in that house, using the Open Space for major events like teaching them to ride their first bikes, rugby training and picnics in the Summer. For more than 25 years we have challenged several attempts to develop Windsor Drive, but unfortunately, as one proposal disappears another seems to rear its ugly head, which is why I and 3 other residents decided to come together to form The Friends of Windsor Drive. Now there are 9 of us on the Committee, and I love every minute of being part of the team. I have a background in Human Resources and worked in the City for 35 years, being able to come home and get out for a walk on Windsor Drive definitely kept me sane. I am absolutely passionate about our Town and what’s left of our open spaces.
If we don’t stand together now to prevent any further development, what will be left for our children?

CATHERINE AGANOGLU

Eco-Advisor

I came to live in Houghton Regis in 2009 after starting a job in Luton as a social worker in the community mental health team, specialising in supporting patients' families. I have an interest in promoting health and well-being; I enjoy exercise, including cycling, walking and the Park Run. I joined the local Green Party in 2014 and became a member of Houghton Regis Heritage Society in 2019. On my days off from work I got to know the area, going for long walks around the edge of the town, and in the parks and open spaces in the residential areas. I became concerned about the shrinking amount of green and open space in the last few years. When I found out about the risk of losing Windsor Drive Open Space to housing development I immediately joined the campaign group.

CAROLINE GIDDINS

Researcher

I have lived in Houghton Regis for 8 years with my 18-year-old and we now have a dog. I’ve worked for a Local Authority (not Central Beds) for 16 years and have a background in Finance and Customer Service. We use Windsor Drive Open Space daily and I am passionate about saving it from development. On a personal level, it has been invaluable to me for my well-being through COVID and continues to be so as I mostly work from home. With Houghton Regis now being surrounded by new builds, I feel it’s absolutely vital to keep open space to prevent it from becoming a concrete jungle with Luton and Dunstable. I’m livid that Central Bedfordshire Council thinks it’s acceptable to take away leisure land, they seem to be disregarding planning law and their own Leisure Strategy. They make me feel like a second-class citizen.
